All That Remains Put Down Finishing Touches

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Massachusetts metallers ALL THAT REMAINS are putting the finishing touches on the recording process for their fifth album, due this fall via Prosthetic Records/Razor & Tie.

Commented vocalist Phil Labonte: “The more these songs get into shape, the more excited I get. This isn’t ‘Overcome Two’. It’s not ‘The Fall Of Ideals Two’. It’s very dynamic, heavy, and experimental. We’ve always had songs that went into different directions and this disc will be no different.”

To engage fans in the recording process for the new CD, ALL THAT REMAINS members Phil Labonte (vocals), Oli Herbert (guitar), Mike Martin (guitar), Jeanne Sagan (bass) and Jason Costa (drums) have set up AllThatRemainsTV.com, a streaming video site set up in their recording studio. Fans can look to the band’s social networking sites for detailed broadcast schedules, giveaways, and weekly chat sessions, but the feed is constantly streaming and any of the band members as well as the album’s producer, Adam Dutkiewicz from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, may pop into the chat room at a random time.

While fans wait for the new album, they can find several of their favorite songs from ALL THAT REMAINS‘ latest album, “Overcome”, on the Rock Band Network for the Xbox Marketplace. The new songs that are now available for download are “Days Without”, “Undone” and “Forever In Your Hands”.

ALL THAT REMAINS will embark on a five-date tour (from June 8 through June 1) with FEAR FACTORY throughout the Northeast/Tri-State area. Phil Labonte said, “We’re really pumped to be getting out on the road with FEAR FACTORY. We’re having an amazing time in the studio working on the new album but it’s always good to get out there in front of the fans and just perform. We’ve been cooped up in the studio so getting out on stage will be a nice break so once we get back in we’ll be recharged to finish this heavy-ass record. Arrghhhh!!!!”

ALL THAT REMAINS tour dates with FEAR FACTORY:

June 08 - South Burlington, VT - Higher Ground
June 09 - Portland, ME - Port City Music Hall
June 10 - Sayreville, NJ - Starland Ballroom
June 11 - Clifton Park, NY - Northern Lights
June 12 - Buffalo, NY - Town Ballroom

ALL THE REMAINS had its first Top 10 hit at rock radio with “Two Weeks”, a song from “Overcome”.

You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

According to a posting on the Ultimate Randy Rhoads MySpace page, there is a Randy Rhoads book in the works entitled “You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll” that has a “major publisher” backing the project. Rock photographer Jay Banbury, whose picture of Randy was selected as the front cover image for the book, states, “‘You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll’ will be the most complete and comprehensive book ever written on Randy Rhoads, period! I’ve personally read numerous chapters from the book and I can honestly tell all of you, that this is the book we’ve all been waiting for! No rehashed guitar magazine articles or fluff story. ‘You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll’ is being written by Randy’s lifelong friend Kelly Garni along with award-winning editor/screenwriter Michael Lynn. Kelly Garni sets the record straight and tells the real Randy Rhoads story as only Kelly can!

“Not only will this book be a great read, it will also contain numerous unpublished photos, memorabilia, personal artifacts, drawings and clippings created by Randy Rhoads himself, along with personal letters that were handwritten by Randy to friends, family and most importantly letters that go into great detail about life on the road while on tour.”

Regarding the fact that one of his pictures was selected to be the front cover image for the “You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll” book, Banbury says, “It’s been nearly 30 years since I shot those special pictures of Randy and I never would have imagined back then how lucky I was to be at the right place at the right time.”

In 1982, Rhoads, the then-lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE, and two others were killed at Flying Baron Estates, just outside Leesburg, Florida, when their small plane struck Osbourne’s tour bus, then crashed into a mansion.

Slipknot Talks About Paul Grey

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

SLIPKNOT has posted a 10-minute tribute video to the band’s late bassist Paul Gray, featuring previously unseen footage. Check it out below.

Private funeral services for Gray were held on Friday (May 28) in Des Moines, Iowa.

Paul was found dead in a hotel room in a Des Moines suburb on Monday (May 24). The cause of Gray’s death has not been determined, although according to a 911 call, a hypodermic needle and pills were found near the 38-year-old musician’s body.

The eight surviving members of SLIPKNOT held a news conference on May 25 at Wells Fargo Arena in the band’s native stomping grounds of Des Moines, Iowa to address Gray’s death. Also present at the event was Gray’s brother Tony and widow Brenna, who spoke briefly at the end of the conference.

“He was everything that was wonderful about this band and about this group of people,” frontman Corey Taylor said. “The only way I can sum up Paul Gray is ‘love.’ Everything he did, he did for everyone around him whether he knew you or not … and that’s what he’s left behind for us: absolute love. I will miss him with every fiber of my heart, as will everybody at this table and everyone who knew him. He was the best of us.”

“It’s very important that everybody on the outside of us understands that Paul Gray was the essence of the band SLIPKNOT. … Paul was there from the very, very beginning, and none of us would be on the path that we’re on now in life or have the sorts of life that we have without him,” percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan added. “Paul loved the fans. He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He’s going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him.”

“It’s very hard for me right now,” added drummer Joey Jordison. “I just want to say that I love you, Paul, very much. You’ll be sorely missed by the world over.”

Sid Wilson, the band’s DJ, credited Gray with introducing him to the band, which he described as a family.

“To me, that’s the most important thing,” Wilson said. “That in everyone he met there was a change in their life. He was so good at giving everyone a different perspective, and I love him for that.”

Percussionist Chris Fehn said when Gray called “you just felt good,” and he remembered the bass player as giving “the best hugs out of everyone I ever hugged. When he grabbed on to you, you could feel the love he had for you.”

Brenna Gray spoke last, mentioning the couple’s unborn child while discussing her husband.

Paul was my husband, an amazing person, and I want people to remember him for that,” Brenna said. “And his daughter will remember him for the way he was.”

Paul and his wife were reportedly expecting their first child in September.
