Talk about tearing down the walls between the artist and the fans. This new project, masterminded by Say Anything lead singer Max Bemis, is taking the concept to a whole new level.

Basically what Max is doing is giving his fans the opportunity to have their very own song written just for them, about whatever it is that they want him to write about. He’s calling it the “Max Bemis Song Shop”. Sound crazy? Maybe. Anyone that knows just how large Say Anything’s fan base is can see how this might become a bit difficult to manage.

“All songs are literally tailored just to you”, Max stated in a video blog he made not to long ago to address the details of the program. “There’s no two songs that’ll be the same”. And in order to reassure us of the quality, he added, “I’m not gonna be writing any crappy songs”.

As loft as a goal as it may seem to be able to pull something like that off, it’s pretty awesome. Even if you’re not a Say Anything fan, know that they do have a very dedicated fan base of kids that will likely go nuts over this. Imagine having your favorite artist of all time write a song specifically for you, and no one else…pretty awesome!

So, what’s the catch? Well, to be honest, $150. That’s the going rate on the Say Anything merch page.  Some might feel that Max is merely doing this to make a few bucks on the side, but honestly I can’t see him ever possibly pulling this off at all without thinning it out a bit. Charging $150 is probably a pretty effective way to weed out frivolous requests so that only those from real, die-hard Say Anything fans get through.

He’s only doing it when he has the time to do it, so don’t expect the offer to be around indefinitely. Today a bulletin was posted from the official Say Anything MySpace account announcing “Max has some free time this week to do a couple more song shop songs”.

If you’re a big Max Bemis fan and you can afford to part with $150, I’d say take advantage of this while you can (and before Max gets sick of writing about girls that other guys are hopelessly in love with).
