With over 8 years of anticipation, Dr. Dre fans across the globe have become rightfully impatient with the Doc’. Way back in 2000, just a year after the chart-topping release of “The Chronic: 2001″, Dre started to drop hints that plans for the next big release were in the works.
Now, 8 years later, everyone is still on their toes, waiting for this almighty rapper and producer to drop an almighty album for the 21st century.
Ok, let’s backtrack a little bit, so you can get a feel for what is going on here. Back in 2004, an astounding 4 years after the first hints of a new album had surfaced, Dr. Dre had started work on what has been said to be his final album, ‘Detox’. At the time, the album was rumored to be released in the fall of 2005, which of course, never happened.
Then, in February of 2007, Dr. Dre told a Los Angeles radio station that he had 18 potential tracks completed for the new album, and that he was trying to weed that selection down to just 12 or 13 of the absolute best tracks that he could ever deliver.
Because none of the news surrounding this seemingly-mythical album ever seems to be completely true or accurate, it only makes sense that DJ Quick later stated in an interview that Dr. Dre has recorded somewhere around 400 tracks for ‘Detox’, 60 of which he had personally heard.
Yes, 400 tracks is a stupidly large amount of songs to record, especially when you plan on only releasing 13 or so of them, but the Dec’ seems to be on a mission to release the most sophisticated, advanced, impressive album in Hip-Hop history, and it appears he may do just that.
As of now, Dr. Dre says ‘Detox’ will be released shortly after 50 Cent’s next album ‘Before I Self Destruct’ and Eminem’s upcoming ‘Relapse’, both of which are slated for an early 2009 release to the public.
If 8 years of ‘Detox’ teasing just isn’t quite enough for you, don’t worry, there are plenty of other rumors to keep the Hip-Hop butterflies in your stomach.
Among these rumors is the list of possible artists that may appear on the album, which include big names like Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, The D.O.C., Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, DJ Quick, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, Warren G, Just Blaze, Busta Rhymes, and Bishop Lamont. I wish I could tell you that I had nothing else to get you excited about here, but that would be a lie, because the expected “Up In Smoke 2″ tour, and the release of a Dr. Dre “Aftermath Cognag”, should both send you running in frustrated circles, begging for Dre to give you ‘Detox’ already.
With a best-guess of a February or March of 2009 release date, all any of us can do is simply sit and wait, addicted to the simple thought of a new Dr. Dre release, until ‘Detox’ finally does come and set us free of our addiction.
