The Resurfacing of Dennis Wilson’s “Pacific Ocean Blue”

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was both psychologically tormented and musically gifted. He was a complicated person with complicated problems and a lot to say that he couldn’t seem to express. His brother, drummer Dennis Wilson, was largely overlooked. Drummers are often just seen in the background and for some reason it is assumed that drumming is all that they’re good at. Dennis Wilson, however, was capable of producing masterpieces and had just as much talent as his brothers – he simply sat on that talent until it became so large that he could no longer contain it.

It bubbled over into Pacific Ocean Blue, which was then lost. Recently it has resurfaced and been re-released, much to the delight of Beach Boys fans everywhere.

Gregg Jacobson, who co-wrote many of the songs on the album, stated that Dennis had spent most of his years being taught by his brother Brian, but it seemed as though no one was aware of how much talent he actually had and what he was capable of.

With the re-release of Pacific Ocean Blue there won’t be many more questions as to what Dennis Wilson could do.
